                   METHODOLOGY

My methodology subject is mathematics.  Mathematics textbooks teach logical by example, a practice started by Euclid; While logic textbooks treat logic as a subject in its own right without practical application to mathematics. Stuck in the middle are students them , the article explains in practical detail how to teach logic- based skills such as; making mathematical reasoning fully explicit; moving from step to step in a mathematical proof in logically correct ways; and checking to make sure inferences are logically correct. The methodology can easily be extended beyond the four examples analyzed.

Logical reasoning is an absolute requirement of mathematical proficiency and has been since ancient times. The most famous textbook in the history of mathematics, The elements of Euclid showed by examples by that mathematical propositions and are to be justified by anon-empirical method; logical argumentation. Thus measuring the interior angles of a triangle is not how mathematics justifies the proposition that those angles add up to 180.
